New York Hip Shots
Frequent visits to family in New York City provided a wonderful opportunity to shoot hip shots there.
Like Mexicali, New Yorkers live their lives out-and-about. Friends chat on stoops. Instead of driving to work or to do errands, they walk, ride the subway, and walk some more. This makes for terrific shooting possibilities.
The F train to Brooklyn goes above ground for a stop or two, so I used to ride back and forth. Then I could get some subway action without camera motion.
The experience of walking in Manhattan, riding the subways, and seeing an entirely different lifestyle from the lower desert of Southern California where I lived, or in Mexicali, Mexico, was fascinating and compelling.
