Botanic Closeups

I have become increasingly interested in gardening, so I began shooting extreme closeups of plants in my garden and in others. Using my 8” by 10” field camera, with a massive bellows extension, I was able to shoot very small parts of plants; that yielded images on my negatives which were much larger than the actual area of the plant that I was shooting. Technical difficulties had to be overcome since huge bellows extensions weaken the light reaching the film, and thus large compensations in the exposures had to be made.

As a whole, these photos are fairly dark and, to my sensibilities, a little mysterious. I love them for that.
